HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Marty Voelker of Downers Grove North High School on receiving the Secondary Art Educator of the Year award for 2015; and

WHEREAS, The annual award, given by the Illinois Art Education Association (IAEA), recognizes a teacher's exemplary contributions, service, and achievements in support of art education in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Marty Voelker started at Downers Grove South High School in 1996 and has been with Downers Grove North since 2001; and

WHEREAS, Marty Voelker has a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Michigan, a Teaching Certification from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, a Master of Arts in Illustration from Syracuse University, and a Master of Fine Arts from the Hartford Art School-University of Hartford, Connecticut; and

WHEREAS, Marty Voelker serves as the head of the regional suburban Chicago affiliate for the Scholastic Art Awards, as a College of DuPage Advisory Committee Member for Graphic Design and Illustration, and as a juror for local arts shows and competitions; and

WHEREAS, Marty Voelker grew up in Western Springs and resides in Wheaton with his wife, Natalie, and his 3 daughters; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Marty Voelker of Downers Grove North High School on receiving the Secondary Art Educator of the Year award for 2015; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Marty Voelker as an expression of our esteem and respect.
