HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Henry Grant, Jr. of Calumet City; and

WHEREAS, Henry Grant, Jr. was born in Chicago on July 5, 1933 to Henry Grant, Sr. and Naomi Moore; he attended Willard Elementary School and graduated from DuSable High School in 1951; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Henry Grant, Jr. worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Chicago from 1951 to 1952; he joined the United States Marine Corps in September of 1952 and was honorably discharged in September of 1955; he was awarded several medals, including the "National Defense Service Medal", the "United Nations Service Medal", and the "Korean Service Medal"; after completing his tour of service, he married Jean Stewart in 1956 and joined the Army National Guard, retiring in November 1977; and

WHEREAS Henry Grant, Jr. joined the Chicago Police Department in 1957 as a patrolman, serving the City of Chicago honorably before his retirement in 1991; he and his wife moved to Calumet City in 1993; and

WHEREAS, Henry Grant, Jr. was affectionately known as "Paw-Paw" to some and as "Hezekiah" to others; and

WHEREAS, Henry Grant, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Raymond and Donald; and

WHEREAS, Henry Grant, Jr. is survived by his wife, Jean; his sons, Stevon and William; his daughters, Valerie and Patricia (Clarence); his brother, Jamus (Janice); his sister-in-law, Lynn (Raymond-deceased); his grandchildren, Kelli (Marius), Jeremy, Michael Vincent (Sherina), Garrett, Sydni, Paige, and Gloria; his great-grandchildren, Nekeya, Rayanna, Joseph, and Imani; his great-great-grandchildren, Ziyiare and Ke'Myrah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Henry Grant, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Henry Grant, Jr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
