HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former Springfield Mayor Ossie Langfelder, who passed away on October 21, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Ossie Langfelder was a native of Austria; he fled during World War II and came to America in 1940 with his parents, Otto and Ruth Marie, and his sister, Edith Raven; and

WHEREAS, Ossie Langfelder served 8 years as Springfield's streets commissioner; he was mayor from 1987 to 1995, the first 8 years after Springfield city government changed from the commission form to the mayor-aldermanic form; and

WHEREAS, Ossie Langfelder published a book about his life titled "My Incredible Journey", chronicling his early years when his family escaped from Austria during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Ossie Langfelder and his wife, Mary "Midge", had 13 children together; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of former Springfield Mayor Ossie Langfelder, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ossie Langfelder as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
