HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Laurette Kittler on the occasion of being inducted into St. Benedict School's Hall of Fame on October 24, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Laurette Kittler was born on December 17, 1928 in Chicago; before finding her way into education, she studied and traveled as an actress, working in various companies and sharing the stage with the likes of Harvey Korman and Celeste Holm; she eventually met her life partner, Emil Kittler, whom she married in 1952; the couple had one daughter, Emily, who took part in several of her mother's shows; and

WHEREAS, After many years as an actress, she decided that the difficult life of a thespian was not the direction she wanted to take; her father then encouraged her to go back to school and teach; in the spring of 1959, while teaching at St. Gregory on Chicago's north side, she was asked to direct a play at St. Benedict High School that was already in production; the following school year, she was hired to teach and direct at St. Benedict; and

WHEREAS, From the 1950s to the mid-1990s, Laurette Kittler directed countless productions and taught thousands of students; she also inspired them to be better people; by marrying her love of theater with her love of teaching, she taught her drama students not only to act and "project", but also learn the vital skills of teamwork, dedication, and a professional attitude that makes one successful in life; and

WHEREAS, Upon her retirement, Laurette Kittler made her way to southern California, where she acted in a local troupe for many years; and

WHEREAS, In honor of Laurette Kittler's induction into the St. Benedict Hall of Fame, a scholarship to a high school drama student will be presented in her name; and

WHEREAS, Laurette Kittler serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Laurette Kittler on the occasion of being inducted into St. Benedict School's Hall of Fame and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Laurette Kittler as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
