HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to honor Hinsdale Police Department Officer Lou Hayes for his courageous actions in saving the life of an injured construction worker; and

WHEREAS, Officer Lou Hayes was patrolling the northeast part of the Village of Hinsdale when a report came in of an injured construction worker at the nearby intersection of County Line Road and Walnut Street in Hinsdale; arriving at the scene, he found that the worker had been accidentally rolled over by a pavement grinder and his right leg was almost completely amputated below the knee; knowing that the Hinsdale Fire Department's ambulance was still minutes away, Officer Hayes placed a tourniquet on the man's leg to stem the loss of blood and provide comfort until help arrived; Officer Hayes was soon relieved and the man survived; and

WHEREAS, For his heroic actions, Officer Lou Hayes was presented with the Hinsdale Police Department's Lifesaving Award during the Hinsdale Village Board's meeting on August 18, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Officer Lou Hayes serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Hinsdale Police Department Officer Lou Hayes for his courageous actions in saving the life of an injured construction worker and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Officer Lou Hayes as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
