HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Sembu Kanthilal on the occasion of receiving the 2015 Rural Physician of Excellence Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and

WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural settings; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sembu Kanthilal graduated medical school from the University of Madras in 1970; he went on to complete his internship at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston and later his residency at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park in 1977; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sembu Kanthilal started his medical practice in Beardstown in 1979; he currently serves as a family practitioner at the Elmer Hugh Taylor Clinic; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sembu Kanthilal is the Chief Medical Officer at Sarah D. Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville; his tireless commitment and innovation is credited for the existence of the hospital's surgical department and Rural Health Clinic; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sembu Kanthilal's extensive expertise as a primary care physician and general surgeon has made it possible for people in rural areas across a four-county region to access healthcare in their own communities; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sembu Kanthilal's talents go beyond medical science and extend to the culinary arts, which is exemplified in the baking he does for his staff, and the artistic design of his holiday lights, which the whole community enjoys; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Dr. Sembu Kanthilal for the selfless service he has provided the residents of the western region of our State for the past 33 years and the impact he has made on improving rural health and wish him the best in his retirement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Sembu Kanthilal as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
