HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Village of New
4Berlin on the occasion of the Village's 150th anniversary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The first settlement in the area was laid out in
61838 by German immigrants; the Village of New Berlin became
7incorporated in 1865 as an agricultural community in Sangamon
8County; and
 
9    WHEREAS, On November 17, 1956, a fire destroyed several
10businesses in New Berlin, which were forced to rebuild; and
 
11    WHEREAS, According to United States Census data, New Berlin
12had a population of 1,346 in 2010, an increase of 30.7% since
132000; and
 
14    WHEREAS, New Berlin is home to Community Unit School
15District 16, which includes New Berlin Elementary School, New
16Berlin Middle School, and New Berlin High School, all of which
17have the Pretzel as their mascot; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The Village of New Berlin is home to the Sangamon
19County Fair, which attracts fairgoers from around central
20Illinois to enjoy music and festivities during the month of

1June; and
 
2    WHEREAS, To commemorate its 150th anniversary, activities
3will take place throughout the year, culminating on the weekend
4of October 3, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, As part of the celebration, a "Sesquicentennial
6History Book" is being developed that will chronicle
7significant events that have occurred in the area; the book
8will include sections for families, businesses, farms,
9churches, and civic organizations, with the goal of building an
10accurate and comprehensive book of the history of the New
11Berlin area; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14congratulate the Village of New Berlin on the occasion of its
15sesquicentennial anniversary, wish the Village tremendous
16success on its sesquicentennial celebration, and wish the
17Village's residents success and prosperity in the years to
18come; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the Village President of New Berlin as a symbol of
21our admiration and respect on the occasion of New Berlin's
22150th anniversary celebration.
