HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Willa
4Harris, who passed away on July 8, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Willa Harris was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi to
6Leona Parker on March 29, 1938 and moved to Chicago with her
7mother and sibling in 1944; she graduated from Dunbar
8Vocational High school in 1957 and went on to graduate from
9college in 1961; she married Sam Harris, Sr.; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Willa Harris worked for many years at various
11places including Montgomery Wards, Kham & Nates, Aldean Morrow,
12and Alden Wentworth, where she spent her final working years as
13a senior union steward; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Willa Harris was affectionately known as "Aunt Wee
15Wee" or "Babysister"; she was a member of Cosmopolitan Church
16of Prayer for over 50 years; her favorite pass time was
17spending time with family, friends, and hanging out at the
18off-track betting; she also enjoyed shopping, traveling,
19visiting different casinos, cooking big dinners, and making
20lemon ice box pies; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Willa Harris was always helping others, laughing,

1and bringing smiles to people's faces; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Willa Harris is survived by her son, Sam L.
3Harris, Jr. (Brenda); her daughter, Aldine D. Harris-Wilson
4(David); her grandchildren, Mario Harris, Aiden Wilson, and
5Samanta' Harris; her great-grandson, DeMarcus Harris; her
6sisters, Dorothy Beard (Khamolaw) and Aldine Davis; her
7brother, Nathaniel Parker (Dorothy); her special friend, Alex;
8and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12mourn the passing of Willa Harris, and extend our sincere
13condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
14her; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Willa Harris as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
