HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Crystal Davis on the occasion of being crowned Miss Illinois 2015 on June 13, 2015 in the Marion Cultural and Civic Center in southern Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Crystal Dianne Davis was born on January 30, 1993 to W.L. and Debra Davis in Anna; at the age of 22, she is about to begin her senior year at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where she is currently studying to obtain a degree in public relations; and

WHEREAS, Crystal Davis has, through the years, devoted much hard-work, time, and effort to beauty pageantry, having competed in her first pageant at age 13; most recently, Ms. Davis was named Miss Southern Illinois 2015 on August 9, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Crystal Davis successfully competed for the title of Miss Illinois alongside 31 fellow, worthy participants who each vied for the distinguished privilege to be called Miss Illinois 2015; she demonstrated her noteworthy skill by gracing the Marion Center audience with her rendition of Frank Sinatra's standard, "That's Life"; and

WHEREAS, Crystal Davis ran on a service platform that she called, "Crystal Clear Driving, Eyes on the Road"; the focus of this campaign was to bring attention to the issue of distracted driving, which is a societal danger that leads to many a motor-vehicle accident each year, especially among young adults; and

WHEREAS, Crystal Davis ultimately proved to set herself apart from the rest of the participants by successfully showcasing her medley of exceptional traits and talents that extend outside of the realm of physical beauty; and

WHEREAS, Apart from undoubtedly being gorgeous on the outside, Crystal Davis has a most remarkable and splendid personality which is rooted in her faith, love for friends and family, and charity provided to others, especially the most vulnerable of all, children; and

WHEREAS, As part of her participation in the Miss Illinois 2015 pageant, Crystal Davis focused many of her efforts in raising money for the Children's Miracle Network, an organization that raises funds for children's hospitals, medical research, and community awareness; over the last 3 years, she has raised $7,800 for the organization; since being crowned Miss Illinois, she has raised another $10,000 for the charity; and

WHEREAS, Since becoming Miss Illinois 2015, Crystal Davis has taken part in various events and performances that try to benefit her community and bring awareness to different noble causes, including appearing at a tea party with girls who suffer from autism in Marion following her crowning as Miss Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Crystal Davis will be taking her talents to the national stage on September 13, 2015, where she will be proudly representing her hometown of Anna, Union County, and the entire State of Illinois in the 2016 Miss America Competition in Atlantic City, New Jersey; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Crystal Davis on being crowned Miss Illinois 2015 and wish her great luck as she represents Illinois in the 2016 Miss America pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Crystal Davis as a symbol of our appreciation and congratulations.
