HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Brenda Logan on the occasion of her retirement from Baxter's Vineyards and Winery and thank her for her significant contributions to the good of the wine industry and the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Brenda Logan, who was born to Gene "Eugene" Pezley and Julia (nee Hanley) Pezley, was raised and has lived in the Nauvoo area her entire life; she graduated from Nauvoo-Colusa High School in 1974 and attended Robert Morris University and the Moser College of Business in Carthage; and

WHEREAS, In 1979, Brenda Logan married Kelly Logan, a member of the fifth generation of the Baxter family, which has been growing grapes and making wine in Illinois since 1857; and

WHEREAS, In 1987, Brenda Logan and her husband purchased the family business, Gem City Vineland Company, and reopened it in 1989 as Baxter's Vineyards and Winery, with Brenda as the primary wine maker and general manager; and

WHEREAS, Since reopening Baxter's Vineyard, Brenda Logan has applied her keen mind and generous spirit to refurbish the entire operation, diversifying the products offered to customers, expanding the business to host overnight travelers, adding a venue for special events, all the while learning and working hard to improve the experience for customers when they enjoyed Baxter's wine; and

WHEREAS, All of this was accomplished even as Brenda Logan gave generously to her friends and colleagues in the Illinois wine industry, taking a lead role in establishing the Illinois Grape Growers and Vintners Association, serving as President from 1993 to 1995; as Secretary-Treasurer from 1995 to 2013; and as a board member from 2013 to 2015; and

WHEREAS, Brenda Logan has not confined her gifts and talents to only the wine industry but has also been a leader on the Nauvoo Chamber of Commerce and has worked in countless ways to promote and maintain the quality of life people in Nauvoo have come to enjoy; and

WHEREAS, Brenda Logan is now looking forward to spending a little less time with grapes and wine and a little more time with family, including her husband, Kelly, daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jerry Orth, and granddaughter, Annabelle Lee; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Brenda Logan on her retirement from Baxter's Vineyards and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Brenda Logan as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
