HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Steven R. Bordner
4on the occasion of his retirement as a 9th Judicial Circuit
5Court Judge after 20 years; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Judge Bordner, a Farmington native and lifelong
7Fulton County resident, earned his undergraduate degree from
8Illinois College in 1977; he went on to receive his Juris
9Doctor from the Southern Illinois University School of Law in
101980; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Judge Bordner began his career by practicing law
12at the firm Collins & Bordner in Lewistown, where he remained
13for over 15 years; he also served as a Special Assistant
14Attorney General for the State of Illinois; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Judge Bordner left the practice in 1995 when he
16was appointed as an Associate Circuit Court Judge for the 9th
17Circuit; he was elected as a full Circuit Court Judge in 2010;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Judge Bordner has handled every type of case,
20ranging from parking tickets to murder cases; and

1    WHEREAS, Judge Bordner is an incredibly accomplished
2Circuit Court Judge; he has served every county in the 9th
3Circuit, which consists of the counties of Fulton, McDonough,
4Knox, Hancock, Warren, and Henderson, and has also served Cook
5County; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Judge Bordner's most significant criminal case
7was a double homicide in which 3 others were also injured; he
8ruled that the defendant be sentenced to death, and even though
9the case was appealed, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled
10unanimously to uphold his decision, a rare occurrence for the
11Supreme Court; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Judge Bordner has broken the mold of Circuit Court
13Judge beyond its administrative duties with a desire to tackle
14community issues for the benefit of all; he has a focused
15resolve that has earned him the respect of any who knows him;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19congratulate Steven R. Bordner on his retirement as a 9th
20Judicial Circuit Court Judge and we wish him continued success
21and happiness in the future; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
