HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bettye Jeanette Hathaway Rivers; and

WHEREAS, Bettye Rivers was born on May 29, 1933 in Chicago; her parents were Quinella and Walter Hathaway; she married Grady Alexander Rivers, Sr. on December 18, 1956; and

WHEREAS, Bettye Rivers attended and graduated from Washington Elementary and Proviso East High School in Maywood; while in school, she was a participant in many cross country races and other sports; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Bettye Rivers was employed at Chulock's Drug Store and the GTE Automatic Electric Company, where she worked until her retirement; she also sponsored the young people's choir at Second Baptist Church and was noted for her attendance at all Proviso East High School Sports events, especially basketball; and

WHEREAS, Bettye Rivers faithfully attended the Second Baptist Church and served as a Junior Choir member, a Gospel Choir member, BYPU, Kitchen Committee member, and Choir Sponsor; and

WHEREAS, Bettye Rivers was preceded in death by her parents; 4 sisters, Mabel, Lucille, Colleen, and Bernice; and a brother, Walter (Watson) Hathaway; and

WHEREAS, Bettye Rivers is survived by 2 sons, Grady (Glenda) Alexander and Glenn (Kris) Anton; 8 grandchildren, Jeremiah, Callie, Glynis, Austin, Spencer, Gaylen, Adam, and Patrick; a sister, Gwen Franklin; 3 sisters-in-law, Marcia, Alice, and Ouida; a brother-in-law, James (Patsy) Brewer; her many nieces, nephews, and cousins; her special friends, Jeanette Rembert, the Burton sisters, Mildred Sykes, and many more; and her beloved Second Baptist Church family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Bettye Jeanette Hathaway Rivers; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bettye Rivers as an expression of our sympathy.
