HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Andre Iguodala on winning
4the 2014-2105 NBA Championship with the Golden State Warriors;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala was born in Springfield on January
728, 1984; he attended Lanphier High School, where he excelled
8both academically and athletically, winning All-Conference
9academic honors, winning the State Journal Register
10Student-Athlete of the Week several times, and placing on the
11National Honor Roll; as a senior, he led his team to a
12second-place finish at the Illinois High School Association
13Class AA State Tournament in 2002; that season, he averaged
1423.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game; he was
15named the Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year and a Second
16Team Parade All-American and Nike All-American; his No. 41
17jersey was retired by Lanphier High School in 2011; and
 
18    WHEREAS, During the summer of 2000, Andre Iguodala was
19named the AAU National Tournament Most Valuable Player after
20hitting the game-winning shot at the final buzzer to give his
21team a 17-and-under national title; in 2002, he was ranked as
22the No. 6 small forward and the No. 26 overall player in the
23nation; he won a gold medal with the United States national

1team at the 2012 London Olympics; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala attended Arizona University and
3was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the
4NBA Draft in 2004; he spent time with the Denver Nuggets before
5joining the Golden State Warriors in 2013; and
 
6    WHEREAS, During the 2015 NBA Finals, Andre Iguodala
7averaged 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1.4 steals
8per game; in the clinching game, he collected 25 points, 5
9assists, and 5 rebounds; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala was named the NBA Finals Most
11Valuable Player, the first NBA Champion and NBA Finals MVP from
12Springfield; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala and his family started the Andre
14Iguodala Youth Foundation to promote athletics as a conduit to
15educational excellence; the organization sponsors numerous
16events each year that make a difference for Springfield youth
17and their families; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20congratulate Andre Iguodala on winning the 2014-2015 NBA
21Championship with the Golden State Warriors and thank him for

1his commitment to the Springfield community; and be it further
 
2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to Andre Iguodala as an expression of our esteem and
4respect.
