HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, NBA player Andre Tyler Iguodala of the Golden
3State Warriors was born on January 28, 1984 in Springfield; and
 
4    WHEREAS, While attending Lanphier High School in
5Springfield, where many other notable athletes have also been
6enrolled, Andre Iguodala succeeded both academically and
7athletically, winning All-Conference academic honors, National
8Honor Roll, and State Journal Student-Athlete of the Week many
9times; and
 
10    WHEREAS, During his senior year, Andre Iguodala lead the
11Lanphier Lions to a second place finish at the Illinois High
12School Association Class AA State tournament in the 2002
13season; he was named Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year as
14well as a second team Parade All-American, Nike All-American,
15and a finalist for the Illinois Mr. Basketball award; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala attended the University of Arizona
17and played for the Wildcats basketball team; within 2 years, he
18was drafted ninth overall by the Philadelphia 76ers, with whom
19he played for until the summer of 2012, when he was traded to
20the Denver Nuggets in a 4 team trade; and
 
21    WHEREAS, In 2013, Andre Iguodala's skills were acquired by

1the Golden State Warriors, where he has played as a small
2forward and shooting guard; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala reached the pinnacle of his career
4in the 2015 NBA season by capturing the NBA Finals MVP Award
5during his return to starting lineup in Game 4 of the series;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala played an important role in the
8Golden State Warriors' victory in the NBA Finals over the
9Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 16.3 points, 4 assists, and 5.8
10rebounds; in Game 6, he scored 25 points and added 5 rebounds
11and 5 assists; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Andre Iguodala's proud connection to Springfield
13and Illinois continues, as The Sporting News named him one of
14"the good guys of 2006" for establishing the Andre Iguodala
15Disaster Relief Fund, which raises money for tornado victims in
16his hometown; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19congratulate Andre Tyler Iguodala for winning the NBA Finals
20MVP Award, show our great pride in our native son for his
21growing professional accomplishments, stalwart good
22sportsmanship, and service to others, and wish him many more

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to Andre Iguodala or a member of his immediate family
4as a symbol of our admiration and respect.
