HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate LeAnn Miller on the
4occasion of her retirement on June 1, 2015 after 32 years of
5dedicated service as an Illinois educator; and
 
6    WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller was born on November 21, 1960 in
7Herrin; her parents are Gerald Lee and Carol Ann Crabb; she is
8the loving and dedicated wife of the "Colonel", Douglas E.
9Miller, the son of the late Herbert and Joyce Miller; and
 
10    WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller graduated from Harrisburg High
11School in 1978; she subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science
12in Elementary Education from Southern Illinois University at
13Carbondale in May of 1982 and her Masters of Science with an
14Administrative Degree from Southern Illinois University
15Carbondale in May of 1989; and
 
16    WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller worked for the Illinois Department of
17Corrections School District 428 from 1983 to 2003, rising
18through the ranks from Teacher to Assistant Principal to
19Principal to Associate Superintendent; she then rose to the
20District's highest position, State Superintendent; as State
21Superintendent, she was an aggressive advocate for education
22for all inmates in the Illinois Department of Corrections to

1receive access to education courses, whether it be basic skills
2or high school and college level courses; and
 
3    WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller was hired at Frankfort Community Unit
4School District 168 in 2004 to serve as the Principal at
5Denning Elementary School; in August of 2013, she moved to
6Frankfort Intermediate School's 3-6 building; and
 
7    WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller served as the Title I Director and
8Homeless Coordinator for Frankfort Community Unit School
9District 168; she has also served on many local committees for
10the district; and
 
11    WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller was a true leader and mentor to the
12staff that worked under her supervision and the students and
13parents that she interacted with on a daily basis; and
 
14    WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller is a true example of the modern
15woman, working hard with a professional career while balancing
16the love and devotion of being a mother and a grandmother; she
17is the mother of Julie Ann Crabb Martin (Davy), Laura Elizabeth
18Miller (fiance Eric Westbrook), and her special "adopted"
19daughter, Liz Brown-Reeves and the grandmother of Jackson and
20Samuel Martin; she also enjoys a very close relationship with
21her siblings, Mary (Mike) Reed, Martha (Rocky) James and John
22(Amanda) Crabb; and

1    WHEREAS, Following her retirement from public service to
2the State of Illinois, LeAnn Miller plans to travel, spend more
3time with her family and friends, read, shop, and maintain her
4keen interest in educational issues; she will hopefully impart
5her extensive wisdom to future generations; and
 
6    WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller's legacy of hard work, integrity, and
7dedication to both the educational system, parents, and
8children of the State of Illinois will be fondly remembered by
9the members of this august body; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12congratulate LeAnn Miller on the occasion of her retirement,
13thank her for her many years of dedicated service to the
14Illinois educational system and the people of the State of
15Illinois, and wish her many happy and healthy retirement years;
16and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to LeAnn Miller as a symbol of our esteem and
19respect.
