HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate LeAnn Miller on the occasion of her retirement on June 1, 2015 after 32 years of dedicated service as an Illinois educator; and

WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller was born on November 21, 1960 in Herrin; her parents are Gerald Lee and Carol Ann Crabb; she is the loving and dedicated wife of the "Colonel", Douglas E. Miller, the son of the late Herbert and Joyce Miller; and

WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1978; she subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in May of 1982 and her Masters of Science with an Administrative Degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in May of 1989; and

WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller worked for the Illinois Department of Corrections School District 428 from 1983 to 2003, rising through the ranks from Teacher to Assistant Principal to Principal to Associate Superintendent; she then rose to the District's highest position, State Superintendent; as State Superintendent, she was an aggressive advocate for education for all inmates in the Illinois Department of Corrections to receive access to education courses, whether it be basic skills or high school and college level courses; and

WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller was hired at Frankfort Community Unit School District 168 in 2004 to serve as the Principal at Denning Elementary School; in August of 2013, she moved to Frankfort Intermediate School's 3-6 building; and

WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller served as the Title I Director and Homeless Coordinator for Frankfort Community Unit School District 168; she has also served on many local committees for the district; and

WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller was a true leader and mentor to the staff that worked under her supervision and the students and parents that she interacted with on a daily basis; and

WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller is a true example of the modern woman, working hard with a professional career while balancing the love and devotion of being a mother and a grandmother; she is the mother of Julie Ann Crabb Martin (Davy), Laura Elizabeth Miller (fiance Eric Westbrook), and her special "adopted" daughter, Liz Brown-Reeves and the grandmother of Jackson and Samuel Martin; she also enjoys a very close relationship with her siblings, Mary (Mike) Reed, Martha (Rocky) James and John (Amanda) Crabb; and

WHEREAS, Following her retirement from public service to the State of Illinois, LeAnn Miller plans to travel, spend more time with her family and friends, read, shop, and maintain her keen interest in educational issues; she will hopefully impart her extensive wisdom to future generations; and

WHEREAS, LeAnn Miller's legacy of hard work, integrity, and dedication to both the educational system, parents, and children of the State of Illinois will be fondly remembered by the members of this august body; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate LeAnn Miller on the occasion of her retirement, thank her for her many years of dedicated service to the Illinois educational system and the people of the State of Illinois, and wish her many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to LeAnn Miller as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
