HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Sangamo Club on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, The Sangamo Club was chartered on April 7, 1890; initial members included names that would become synonymous with the history of the area; and

WHEREAS, The first clubhouse opened on June 10, 1890 on South Sixth Street; the current clubhouse, on East Adams Street, opened in March of 1963; and

WHEREAS, The philosophy of the Sangamo Club has changed over the years as it transitioned from a gentleman's club into the social, business, and political nexus it is known as today; and

WHEREAS, The Sangamo Club still plays an important role in the life of the community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Sangamo Club on its 125th anniversary and wish it many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Sangamo Club as an expression of our esteem and respect.
