HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Kay Marie Hurt of Aurora, who passed away on May 9, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Kay Hurt was born on March 8, 1941 in Waterloo, Iowa; her parents were Anthony and Viola "Ollie" (nee Blocker) Kupris; and

WHEREAS, Kay Hurt graduated from West Waterloo High School; she subsequently graduated from the University of Iowa in 1963; and

WHEREAS, Kay Hurt had a 40-plus year career in retail management, beginning at Carson Pirie Scott in Chicago; she was the owner and operator of Jean Marie's Clothing Store in Aurora; she later went to work for H.C. Lytton's and Marshall Field's, where she received the "Fields Finest" recognition award in 2001; she retired from retail management in 2003; and

WHEREAS, Kay Hurt devoted her time and talent to many organizations; she served as President and was a life member of the American Association of University Women; she was a board member of Mutual Ground for over 30 years and served as President for 4 years; she was a member of the Child Welfare Society in Aurora and served as President of the organization; she was selected as a YWCA "Woman of Distinction" in 2005; most recently, she served as a volunteer at the Lifelong Learning Institute at Waubonsee College; and

WHEREAS, Kay Hurt was preceded in death by her parents and other close family members; and

WHEREAS, Kay Hurt is survived by her loving husband, Gary B. Hurt; a son, Stephen B. Hurt (friend, Sara Peters); a daughter, Jennifer Kay (Parish) Swanson; 3 grandchildren, Ashley (Dennis) Morsch, Byren (Melissa) Swanson, and Gunnar Swanson; 4 great-grandchildren, Mckinlee and Paisley Morsch and Audrey and Odessa Swanson; a brother, Jerry Kupris; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Kay Marie Hurt; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Kay Hurt as an expression of our sympathy.
