HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, In 1921, 3 young Japanese chemists in Tokyo laid the foundation for the GC Corporation; and

WHEREAS, The GC Corporation is one of the world's largest manufacturers of dental products with nearly 2,600 associates and production sites in Japan, United States, China, and Europe; and

WHEREAS, The GC Corporation's subsidiary in the United States is known as GC America; and

WHEREAS, GC America works with dentists, technicians, hygienists, and other dental professionals around the world to be a leader in providing quality dental care products that make a major contribution to people's health; and

WHEREAS, GC America constantly seeks to produce original products that consciously curtail the environmental impact of the production process; and

WHEREAS, The GC Corporation recently celebrated 94 years as a leader in innovation and technology of dental materials; and

WHEREAS, The Deming Prize was established in 1951 to honor W. Edwards Deming who contributed greatly to Japan's proliferation of statistical quality control after World War II; and

WHEREAS, W. Edwards Deming's teachings helped Japan's industries become recognized as delivering the highest quality in the world; and

WHEREAS, The Deming Prize is a global quality award that recognizes businesses that have successfully implemented Total Quality Management (TQM); and

WHEREAS, The Deming Prize is one of the oldest and most widely recognized quality awards in the world according to The Management and Control of Quality (4th ed.), written by James Evans and William Lindsay in 1993; and

WHEREAS, GC America received the prestigious Deming Prize in 2014 for their continued quality; and

WHEREAS, GC America is the first dental company in the United States to earn the Deming Prize; and

WHEREAS, GC America is only the fourth company in the United States to earn the Deming Prize; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate GC America on receiving the prestigious and globally recognized Deming Prize for being a worldwide leader in Total Quality Management; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to GC America as an expression of our esteem and respect.
