HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are honored to congratulate Joanne K. Glasser
4on her retirement as President of Bradley University; and
 
5    WHEREAS, President Glasser is a graduate of George
6Washington University in Washington, D.C. and the University of
7Maryland School of Law; she also has a certificate from the
8Harvard University Graduate School of Education Institute for
9Higher Education Management in Boston; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Prior to her presidency at Bradley University,
11President Glasser, a native of Baltimore, served as president
12of Eastern Kentucky University, as executive vice president and
13chief advancement officer at Towson University, and as an
14attorney and labor commissioner for the Baltimore County
15government; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Under President Glasser's leadership, Bradley
17University has enrolled the best classes academically on record
18in the University's history for fall 2012, 2013, and 2014 based
19on ACT scores; her other academic initiatives include the
20launch of both a Pre-Law Center and a PreProfessional Health
21Advisory Center; she also helped Bradley University create
22programs in interactive media, game and web design, social

1media marketing, accelerated nursing, global supply chain
2management, hospitality leadership, sports communication, and
3a dietetics internship curriculum; in 2015, the University
4launched an initiative to offer online graduate programs in
5nursing and counseling; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Numerous "firsts" occurred throughout her
7presidency; the Mund-Lagowski Department of Chemistry and
8Biochemistry became the first department to be named in the
9University's history; Bradley University's Executive MBA
10program was named in 2009 after Dr. Theresa Falcon, the first
11EMBA program in the world to be named for a woman and by a
12woman; President Glasser and the Board of Trustees announced
13the creation of the Robert and Carolyn Turner School of
14Entrepreneurship and Innovation in 2012; Bradley University is
15among the first universities in the nation to have a school of
16entrepreneurship and the first established as a freestanding
17academic unit; a second school was established for iconic
18sportscaster Charley Steiner in 2015, The Charley Steiner
19School of Sports Communication, which is the first such school
20to be named in the nation; acknowledging a decades-long history
21of support for the University, President Glasser announced the
22naming of the Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology
23in 2012; and
 
24    WHEREAS, President Glasser successfully completed the

1largest comprehensive capital campaign, the campaign for a
2Bradley Renaissance, in the University's history; the campaign
3that changed the face of the University surpassed its goal of
4$150 million; the first phase of the Renaissance included
5construction of the $30 million Markin Family Student
6Recreation Center and a 600-car parking deck; the $50 million,
74,200-seat Renaissance Coliseum, home to the women's
8basketball and volleyball teams and the Men's Basketball
9Practice Facility opened in 2010; the $12 million Hayden-Clark
10Alumni Center which was completed in 2011, earning LEED Silver
11certification from the United States Green Building Council;
12the expansion and renovation of Westlake Hall, the
13second-oldest building on campus, was completed in 2012,
14earning LEED Gold certification from the United States Green
15Building Council; and
 
16    WHEREAS, President Glasser serves as the chair of the NCAA
17Division I Committee on Institutional Performance (formerly
18the NCAA Division I Committee on Athletics Certification) and
19as vice chair of its Executive Subcommittee; she was a member
20of the Board of Directors: Division I Presidential Advisory
21Group; she is also a member of the Commission on Women in
22Higher Education Task Force, the Council for Advancement and
23Support of Education, and a former member of the American
24Council on Education Commission on Effective Leadership; and

1    WHEREAS, A student-focused university with an emphasis on
2student-learning and success, President Glasser is a champion
3of students; she was nationally recognized for her student
4engagement by The Chronicle of Higher Education, which
5published a story about the Office Hours she holds monthly for
6students; and
 
7    WHEREAS, President Glasser was the honorary chair of the
825th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Peoria,
9hometown of Ms. Komen and her sister, Nancy Brinker, founder of
10the Komen Foundation and Race for the Cure; under her
11leadership, the University received an international award
12from Susan G. Komen for the Cure: the 2011 Outstanding
13Volunteer Group Award; in 2011, she was honored with the Peoria
14YWCA Education and Care of Children Award for her many
15contributions at Bradley; President Glasser also was the
16recipient of the Bradley University 2010 Megan Fong Inspiration
17Award; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20congratulate Joanne K. Glasser on her retirement as President
21of Bradley University and for her dedicated service and
22leadership to the Bradley University community; and be it
23further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to Joanne Glasser as an expression of our esteem and
3respect.
