HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Edward Jordan, who passed away on March 1, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Edward Jordan was born on April 3, 1923 in Shuqualak, Mississippi; his parents were Channie (nee Ivy) Jordan and Edmond Jordan; he married Alma (nee Johnson) Jordan on July 13, 1936; she preceded him in death on March 18, 1998; he married Mildred Jordan on June 30, 2001; and

WHEREAS, Edward Jordan found the Lord at an early age and became a faithful member of Bethal A.M.E. church in Murphysboro until its closing; he later joined and became a faithful member of Bethal A.M.E. Church in Carbondale until his passing; and

WHEREAS, Edward Jordan was employed by the Gulf, Mobile, and Ohio Railroad for 32 years until his retirement in February of 1975; and

WHEREAS, Edward Jordan was an avid fisherman and was famous for his homemade jelly; and

WHEREAS, Edward Jordan was a founding member of the Gospel Quartet Spiritual Travelers of Carbondale; he dedicated over 50 years of his life singing praises for the Lord with the Spiritual Travelers; and

WHEREAS, Edward Jordan was preceded in death by his first wife and 2 sons, Peter (Harriet) Jordan and Edward (Joyce) Jordan, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Edward Jordan is survived by his wife, Mildred; 2 sons, Leroy (Johnetta) Jordan and Melvin (Martha) Jordan; 2 daughters, Margaret (Leon) Griffin and Linda Jordan; a brother, Joseph Jordan; a sister, Gracie (Roland) Byrd; his many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Edward Jordan; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edward Jordan as an expression of our sympathy.
