HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former Illinois State Representative Harold Murphy of Markham, who passed away on January 5, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy was born in Birmingham, Alabama on April 1, 1940; he graduated with honors from Northeastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education; and

WHEREAS, For over 20 years, Rep. Murphy was employed as the Executive Director of the Charles Chew Facility of the Illinois Secretary of State's Office; he also served on the Board of Trustees for South Suburban College and as a City of Markham Alderman; he was active with the local school board and the Markham Park District; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy served his community as State Representative for the 30th Legislative District during the 88th, 89th, 90th, 91st, and 92nd General Assemblies; his legislative committees included Prison Management Reform; the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority Advisory Board; the Illinois Advisory Council on Alcoholism and other Drug Dependency; Higher Education; Financial Institutions; Counties and Townships; Commerce, Industry and Labor; Health Care Availability and Access; Environment and Energy; Elementary and Secondary Education; he served as Co-Chair of the Transportation and Motor Vehicles Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Pension Laws Commission, and Chairman of the Personnel and Pension Committee; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy strongly believed in "Doing the Will of the People"; he was an active member of Victory Christian International Ministries, where he served on the Stewardship Ministry and maintained his membership until his death; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta; and

WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy is survived by his daughters, Vetonia (Raven), Karen, and Cassandra (Franklin); his grandchildren, Michael, Carolyn, and Jeremiah; and his great-grandchildren, Omarian, Jahzlynn, and Kyree; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of former Illinois State Representative Harold Murphy, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rep. Murphy as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
