HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. S. Alan Ray on the occasion of his retirement as President of Elmhurst College; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ray became the 13th President of Elmhurst College in July of 2008 and has served for 7 years; and

WHEREAS, During Dr. Ray's tenure, Elmhurst College has become stronger academically and enjoys an enhanced reputation and a much wider reach within the student marketplace; and

WHEREAS, In addition to being President of Elmhurst College, Dr. Ray has a joint appointment in the political science and religious studies departments, with the title professor of religion and society; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ray is a Harvard-trained student of theology and a scholar of federal Indian law; he has written and taught on religion, philosophy, and Native American issues; in 2010, President Obama appointed him to the National Advisory Council on Indian Education; he is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ray will be honored for his service at an event at Elmhurst College on May 11, 2015, and his retirement will be official on June 30, 2015; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. S. Alan Ray on his retirement as President of Elmhurst College and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Ray as an expression of our esteem and respect.
