HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Isaiah Alexander Martinez of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on winning the 2014-2015 National Collegiate Athletic Association National Championship in wrestling; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Martinez was undefeated in the 2014-2015 season with a record of 34 wins and 0 losses; he is the first undefeated freshman national champion since 1999; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Martinez was the 2014-2015 Big Ten Champion and the Big Ten Freshman of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Martinez was one of 4 finalists for the Hodge Award - wrestling's equivalent to the Heisman Trophy in college football; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Martinez was a 3-time California High School State Champion; in 2012, he was the National Junior Freestyle Champion; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Martinez's hometown is Lemoore, California; his parents are Alfred Garcia and Yvonne Martinez Garcia; he has 2 brothers, Isaac and Steven, and one sister, Alyssa; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Isaiah Alexander Martinez on winning the 2014-2015 National Collegiate Athletic Association National Championship in wrestling, and we wish him many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Isaiah Martinez as an expression of our esteem and respect.
