HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the Isaac Hull Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on the occasion of the Chapter's 100th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The Daughters of the American Revolution is a national patriotic organization whose members are direct descendants of those patriots who fought in the American Revolution, who, with unfailing loyalty, served as sailors, soldiers, and civil officers or rendered material aid to the cause of American independence during the Revolutionary War; and

WHEREAS, The Daughters of the American Revolution is the only women's organization that reports to Congress each year; and

WHEREAS, The Isaac Hull Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was organized on July 17, 1915 by Lulu H. Hull, a resident of Marion County; and

WHEREAS, Isaac Hull, Jr., for whom this chapter was named, was the great-great-grandson of Reverend Joseph, a minister of the established Church of England who brought a colony from his native land in 1653 and settled in Massachusetts, where he founded the town of Hull; his father, Isaac Hull, Sr. was a 1st Lieutenant Quartermaster in New Jersey with the Second Regiment Sussex County Militia; and

WHEREAS, The majority of the charter members were descendants of Isaac Hull, Jr.; it was decided to use his name for the chapter's designation; and

WHEREAS, The first Isaac Hull Chapter officers were Lulu Hammond Hull, Regent; Lucy Hull Parks, Vice Regent; Martha Rogers Bennett, Chaplain; Effie B. Brinkerhoff, Secretary; Lovell Hull Bell, Treasurer; Mary Ruth Williams, Registrar; and Nellie Larimer Moore, Historian; and

WHEREAS, The Constitution and By-Laws for the Isaac Hull Chapter were adopted on February 12, 1916; the Chapter's original minutes from 1915-1921 reside with the Marion County Genealogical and Historical Society offices in the Bryan-Bennett Library in Salem; and

WHEREAS, As of the date of the 100th anniversary, the officers of the Isaac Hull Chapter are: Carolyn Baker Stubblefield, Regent; Julie Woods Barnes, Vice-Regent; Sarah Jane McClelland Gaston, Chaplain; Lael Nesmith Snyder, Secretary; Susan Hayes Burgess, Treasurer; Sharen Lawson Harvey, Assistant Treasurer; Carol Simcox Wood, Registrar; and Ada Joyce Quick White, Historian; and

WHEREAS, The Isaac Hull Chapter sponsors Good Citizenship Awards at schools in Marion County, American History Essay contests, and school and community flag/veteran programs; the Chapter also promotes support for veterans, provides programs to veterans at the Marion Veterans Hospital and residential care facilities, prompts celebrations of patriotic holidays, presents the flag of the United States of America to new citizens at naturalization ceremonies, and sponsors the Children of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution Schools, and many national special committees; and

WHEREAS, At all chapter meetings, the Isaac Hull Chapter begins each meeting with a prayer, a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, the American's Creed, and the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States of America, and a performance of The Star Spangled Banner; as a Daughter of the American Revolution, each daughter makes an oath and accepts the duty to love our country, support the Constitution, obey its laws, respect its flag, and defend it against all enemies; and

WHEREAS, The Isaac Hull Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will mark its 100th anniversary on July 17, 2015 with a reception in Marion County; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the Isaac Hull Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on the occasion of its 100th anniversary and wish the organization and its members continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Isaac Hull Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
