HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. John Roth on the occasion of his retirement and thank him for his countless years of service to the Morris community; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Roth was born on June 23, 1940 in Morris; he knew from the time he was a young boy that he would be a doctor, just as his father was; and

WHEREAS, At just 24 years old, Dr. Roth graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine; he completed medical school in just 3 years, rather than the typical 4 years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Roth interned for a year at Denver General Hospital and treated his patients like royalty; while at Denver General Hospital, he met a young nurse named Judie, who later became his wife; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Roth was drafted to Vietnam after his intern year; after serving, he returned to Denver to St. Joseph Hospital for a 3-year residency; after finishing his residency, he returned home to Morris to practice medicine; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Roth always knew he was meant to be a doctor but was unsure what kind he wanted to be; he thought after his time in Vietnam that he would like to be a surgeon; however, his father said that if there was a crisis, they would need an obstetrician; the Morris community needed an obstetrician, so that is what he chose to become; and

WHEREAS, Obstetrics was a perfect fit for Dr. Roth because it still allowed him to perform surgery; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Roth was there for the Morris Hospital and Healthcare Centers when an expectant mother was in crisis; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Roth has delivered more than 8,000 babies in 43 years and believes, at the age of 74, it is time for him to retire; he has said he is leaving the field in good hands and is thrilled to be doing so; and

WHEREAS, When Dr. Roth returned to Morris, he was the first and only doctor practicing obstetrics; he has paved the way for many more doctors to practice in the Morris community; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Roth has set high standards and is described by all as both genuine and caring; he will be greatly missed by all of the patients that have had the pleasure of his service; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Roth serves as an example of a hardworking, passionate, and dedicated member of the Morris community; his work throughout his career has benefited many; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Dr. John Roth for his many years of service, congratulate him on the occasion of his retirement, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Roth as an expression of our congratulations and appreciation for a job well done.
