HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, A Funeral Director in the State of Illinois must
3obtain a license from the Department of Financial and
4Professional Regulation; no person may practice funeral
5directing without a license, or without having a fixed place of
6practice or being employed by or under contract with an
7establishment devoted to that practice; and
 
8    WHEREAS, A Funeral Director cannot work out of a
9storefront, office space inside of an office building, or any
10other facility that is unlicensed as a stand-alone funeral
11parlor; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Any action of a person falsely claiming to be a
13licensed Funeral Director or working out of a temporary
14establishment is in violation of State law; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The license requirements for Funeral Directors
16are stated in the Funeral Directors and Embalmers Licensing
17Code (225 ILCS 41/5-5 et seq.); and
 
18    WHEREAS, It has become known in recent years that the
19practice of curbstone funeral directing is taking place in
20cities around the State; and

1    WHEREAS, The illegal practice of curbstone funeral
2directing is a major concern because it takes advantage of
3people during a difficult and emotional time; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6urge the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional
7Regulation to investigate the occurrences of illegal curbstone
8funeral directing across the State; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10delivered to the Director of the Illinois Department of
11Financial and Professional Regulation.
