HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to honor Anthony White for his 50 years of
4music ministry service in Illinois and Missouri; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Anthony White currently serves as Minister of
6Music at Mount Gideon Missionary Baptist Church of University
7City, Missouri; he began playing the piano and organ at the
8young age of 14, under the instruction of Mike Zikovich at the
9Sonny Shields Music Studio; he later received instruction from
10the Margie Olive School of Music; growing up in Friendship
11Baptist Church, he served as the musician for the youth choir;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Since that time, Anthony White has shared his gift
14of music at many churches throughout the Greater Metropolitan
15St. Louis and East St. Louis areas; he previously served as a
16musician at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Mt. Pisgah Church,
17Morning Star of East St. Louis, Morning Star of St. Louis, the
18Holy Ghost Tabernacle, Greater Calvary Missionary Baptist
19Church, Cherubim Baptist Church, Union Tabernacle Church,
20Leonard Baptist Church, Mercy Seat Baptist Church, Cornerstone
21Baptist Church, Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, Mount
22Herald Church, and Pleasant Green Baptist Church, among others;

1    WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Anthony White has had the
2opportunity to work with other gospel greats, such as his
3personal friend Reverend James Cleveland, his mentor Reverend
4Charles Nicks, Charles Fold, Casetta George, Albertina Walker,
5the O'Neil Twins, Jack McGill, Gladys Givens, and Jeanetta
6Bradley; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Anthony White has had some of his most meaningful
8experiences in gospel music, including arranging, songwriting,
9and playing at Madison Square Garden, Constitutional Hall, the
10Civic Auditorium in Houston, Texas, the Municipal Auditorium in
11Atlanta, Georgia, McCormick Place in Chicago, and the Powell
12Symphony Hall, Kiel Auditorium, and Scottrade Center in St.
13Louis; he has been involved with the Gospel Music Workshop of
14America for over 45 years, serving the organization on the
15national and local levels and as a member, musician, assistant
16chapter representative, and co-chapter representative; he also
17wrote the song "I Don't Need Nobody Else", which is still being
18performed by choirs across the country; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In addition to his contributions to the church
20community, Anthony White is also involved by serving as a voice
21for his neighborhood in East St. Louis; and
 
22    WHEREAS, For the past 50 years, Anthony White has been

1known for his fancy and debonair style and fashion, his rich
2practice of teaching traditional gospel music, especially
3hymns, and for bringing out the best in every voice under his
4leadership; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7honor Anthony White for his 50 years of music ministry service
8and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and
9be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Anthony White as a symbol of our esteem and
12respect.
