HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Tommie Echols Boykin, who passed away on November 7, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Tommie Boykin was born on February 24, 1931 in Memphis, Tennessee; her parents were Clifton and Victoria Echols; and

WHEREAS, Tommie Boykin attended Larose Elementary School, Booker T. Washington High School, and LeMoyne Owen College; and

WHEREAS, Tommie Boykin served as President of the National Association of Government Employees #R5-66 following the passing of her husband in 1974; she also served as an Auxiliary Probation Officer for Girls with the City of Memphis and a Sales Associate at MCI; and

WHEREAS, Tommie Boykin was a member of Castalia Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Tommie Boykin was preceded in death by her husband, Drew Boykin, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Tommie Boykin is survived by her aunt, Johnnie Sanders (David - Sonny); her sister, Flewellen Echols Jenkins (Ronnie Bell); her children, Shirley Boykin-Doss (Jerry), Clifton Echols Boykin, Vicki Drew Boykin Adams (David), Willa Boykin Broom (Jessie), and John Flewellen Boykin (Palmetra); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one nephew; one niece; and many other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Tommie Echols Boykin; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Tommie Boykin as an expression of our sympathy.
