HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the 90th anniversary of the Retired Teachers Association of Chicago in 2016; and

WHEREAS, At the time of the founding of the RTAC in 1926, the United States was in an uncertain period, only three years before the onset of the Great Depression; and

WHEREAS, In 1945, the RTAC worked with Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus to establish and serve as one of the charter members of the National Retired Teachers Association, which promotes the interests of retired educators across the nation; and

WHEREAS, The RTAC had provided a variety of supportive services to its members throughout the nine decades of its existence, which included times of serious economic challenges to the United States, the State of Illinois, and the City of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, The RTAC actively represents the interests of its approximately 10,000 members in the Illinois General Assembly to secure legislation to promote fiscal stability to its pension funding resources; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that the Retired Teachers Association of Chicago be commended for 90 years of service to retired Chicago public school educators; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Retired Teachers Association of Chicago.
