HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the celebration of the "Roast and Toast" of Coach John "The Dean" Snyder; and

WHEREAS, Coach Snyder graduated from Cornell High School; he served in the United States Marine Corps and earned his degree in education from Illinois State University in Normal; and

WHEREAS, Coach Snyder served 39 years as the Central Catholic High School Saints' basketball coach from 1958 to 1997; he also coached at Trinity High School; and

WHEREAS, Coach Snyder coached over 1,000 games; he has an overall winning record over than 500 wins; he took his teams to 16 Regional Championships and Class A Tournament berths in 1973, 1976, and 1979; he is the winningest basketball coach with a regional competition record of 59 and 23; and

WHEREAS, In addition to coaching basketball, Coach Snyder has served as athletic director and coached baseball and football; during the 1965-66 school year, he coached all three sports; and

WHEREAS, Coach Snyder was inducted into the Bloomington Normal Officials Association Hall of Fame, the Illinois State University Hall of Fame, the Central Catholic Hall of Fame, and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Central Catholic's gymnasium, infamously named "The Pit" by Coach Snyder, was renamed the John R. Snyder Gymnasium in 1997; and

WHEREAS, Coach Snyder was nicknamed "The Dean" by his Assistant Coach, Mike Matthews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the celebration of the "Roast and Toast" of Coach John "The Dean" Snyder, and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Snyder as an expression of our esteem and respect.
