HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the celebration of the "Roast
4and Toast" of Coach John "The Dean" Snyder; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Coach Snyder graduated from Cornell High School;
6he served in the United States Marine Corps and earned his
7degree in education from Illinois State University in Normal;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Coach Snyder served 39 years as the Central
10Catholic High School Saints' basketball coach from 1958 to
111997; he also coached at Trinity High School; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Coach Snyder coached over 1,000 games; he has an
13overall winning record over than 500 wins; he took his teams to
1416 Regional Championships and Class A Tournament berths in
151973, 1976, and 1979; he is the winningest basketball coach
16with a regional competition record of 59 and 23; and
 
17    WHEREAS, In addition to coaching basketball, Coach Snyder
18has served as athletic director and coached baseball and
19football; during the 1965-66 school year, he coached all three
20sports; and

1    WHEREAS, Coach Snyder was inducted into the Bloomington
2Normal Officials Association Hall of Fame, the Illinois State
3University Hall of Fame, the Central Catholic Hall of Fame, and
4the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Central Catholic's gymnasium, infamously named
6"The Pit" by Coach Snyder, was renamed the John R. Snyder
7Gymnasium in 1997; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Coach Snyder was nicknamed "The Dean" by his
9Assistant Coach, Mike Matthews; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12recognize the celebration of the "Roast and Toast" of Coach
13John "The Dean" Snyder, and we wish him the best in all his
14future endeavors; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Coach Snyder as an expression of our esteem and
17respect.
