HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Theresa Coye Nihill on
4becoming the Chief Operating Officer of Metropolitan Family
5Services; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill has served in her current position
7as Executive Director of the Metropolitan DuPage Center since
82007; she joined Metropolitan as a social worker in 1986, and
9throughout her 30-year career, has helped provide low-income
10families with job, education, health, and other services; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill has led and worked with community
12partners to identify gaps in services and has worked tirelessly
13to fill those gaps; she has worked to expand, improve, and
14build new systems in human services to help meet the basic
15needs of DuPage County residents, especially the most
16vulnerable; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill is a true collaborator and helped
18found and develop numerous programs, including Family
19Self-Sufficiency, which provides lower-income families access
20to child care, educational and job opportunities, and intensive
21emotional support; Supportive Housing Initiative for Families
22in Transition designed to stabilize housing for homeless

1families so they may address issues associated with poverty; We
2Go Together for Kids, a collaborative that addresses the
3health, safety, and the well-being of West Chicago students and
4their families; and several integrated behavioral health and
5primary health programs; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill's leadership roles include serving
7on the Steering Committee for Impact DuPage and the Behavioral
8Health Collaboration for DuPage County; the Boards of the
9DuPage Federation on Human Services Reform and Positive
10Parenting DuPage; and the Steering Committee for We Go Together
11for Kids; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Under Theresa Nihill's leadership, the
13Metropolitan DuPage Center won grants to provide Head Start and
14Early Head Start programming in DuPage County, and secured
15support for the Addison Children's Center; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill was named one of DuPage County's
17"5O Under 50" and as a Woman of Distinction by Suburban Life
18Media; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill helped forge a partnership with the
20People's Resource Center that provides mental health services
21to individuals and families living in Southeast DuPage County
22which had been underserved; and

1    WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill is an inspiration to others and a
2role model to young women who strive to succeed; therefore, be
3it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6congratulate Theresa Coye Nihill on becoming the Chief
7Operating Officer of Metropolitan Family Services, and we wish
8her many years of success; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Theresa Nihill as an expression of our esteem and
11respect.
