HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Theresa Coye Nihill on becoming the Chief Operating Officer of Metropolitan Family Services; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill has served in her current position as Executive Director of the Metropolitan DuPage Center since 2007; she joined Metropolitan as a social worker in 1986, and throughout her 30-year career, has helped provide low-income families with job, education, health, and other services; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill has led and worked with community partners to identify gaps in services and has worked tirelessly to fill those gaps; she has worked to expand, improve, and build new systems in human services to help meet the basic needs of DuPage County residents, especially the most vulnerable; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill is a true collaborator and helped found and develop numerous programs, including Family Self-Sufficiency, which provides lower-income families access to child care, educational and job opportunities, and intensive emotional support; Supportive Housing Initiative for Families in Transition designed to stabilize housing for homeless families so they may address issues associated with poverty; We Go Together for Kids, a collaborative that addresses the health, safety, and the well-being of West Chicago students and their families; and several integrated behavioral health and primary health programs; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill's leadership roles include serving on the Steering Committee for Impact DuPage and the Behavioral Health Collaboration for DuPage County; the Boards of the DuPage Federation on Human Services Reform and Positive Parenting DuPage; and the Steering Committee for We Go Together for Kids; and

WHEREAS, Under Theresa Nihill's leadership, the Metropolitan DuPage Center won grants to provide Head Start and Early Head Start programming in DuPage County, and secured support for the Addison Children's Center; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill was named one of DuPage County's "5O Under 50" and as a Woman of Distinction by Suburban Life Media; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill helped forge a partnership with the People's Resource Center that provides mental health services to individuals and families living in Southeast DuPage County which had been underserved; and

WHEREAS, Theresa Nihill is an inspiration to others and a role model to young women who strive to succeed; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Theresa Coye Nihill on becoming the Chief Operating Officer of Metropolitan Family Services, and we wish her many years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Theresa Nihill as an expression of our esteem and respect.
