HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Augustina Gonzalez
4Brennan on the occasion of being the first Latina to be
5promoted to the rank of Captain in the Chicago Police
6Department; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan was born and raised in
8Chicago and grew up in the Humboldt Park area; she attended
9Chicago Public Schools and parochial high schools; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan joined the Chicago
11Police Department in February of 1986 and was assigned to the
12Shakespeare District in Humboldt Park; she worked as a Beat
13Officer, Neighborhood Relations Officer, and Tactical Officer
14in the 14th District, as well as a COS Dispatcher in multiple
15police zones; and
 
16    WHEREAS, In June of 1999, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan was
17promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to the 23rd Police
18District to work as a Beat Sergeant, Gang/Tactical Sergeant,
19and Business Liaison Sergeant; in 2001, she was assigned to the
20Bureau of Organized Crime, Narcotics Division, where she worked
21numerous street level narcotic operations, including long term
22Title III Federal and State wire intercept investigations with

1federal law enforcement agencies, the State's Attorney's
2Office, and the United States Attorney's Office; in 2005, she
3was assigned to the Asset Forfeiture Unit, where she oversaw
4daily operations involving money and forfeiture seizures and
5proceedings with the State's Attorney's Asset Forfeiture Unit;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, In September of 2010, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan
8was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to the
920th Police District as the Watch and Field Operations
10Lieutenant; in 2013, she was assigned to the Detective Division
11as the Commanding Officer of the Juvenile Intervention and
12Support Center, where she was responsible for overseeing the
13processing of thousands of juvenile offenders covering seven
14Police Districts; she also worked in the Missing Persons Unit
15and, as the highest ranking officer in the Youth Division,
16oversaw all operations of the Youth Administration Division and
17the Special Investigations Unit, which is responsible for child
18sex case investigations; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In January of 2016, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan was
20promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned to the Town Hall -
2119th Police District; after working as Acting Police Commander
22for three months, she became the Captain in charge of
23Administrative and Operational Concerns; and

1    WHEREAS, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan is currently assigned
2to the Bureau of Organizational Development, Inspections
3Division as a Field Inspector; she is certified as a Peer
4Support Team leader in handling major crisis situations
5involving Chicago Police Department officers and family
6members; she is also certified as a Crisis Intervention Team
7officer, where she handles situations involving individuals
8with mental health needs, and is a member and team leader of
9the Employee Assistance Program - Peer Support Team Unit; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan obtained a Bachelor of
11Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Calumet College and a
12Master of Business Administration Degree from St. Xavier
13University in 2003; she was selected to attend the Police
14Executive Research Forum's Senior Management Institute for
15Police in Boston, Massachusetts; she was also selected to
16attend the Chicago Police Executive Development Program; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan is married with two
18children and three grandchildren; her husband is also a Chicago
19Police Department officer; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Augustina Gonzalez Brennan serves as a model of
21hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the
22State of Illinois; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3congratulate Augustina Gonzalez Brennan on the occasion of
4being the first Latina to be promoted to the rank of Captain in
5the Chicago Police Department and wish her continued success
6and happiness in the future; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to Augustina Gonzalez Brennan as a symbol of our
9esteem and respect.
