HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On May 25, 2012, the President of the United States of America proclaimed May 28, 2012 through November 11, 2025 as the Commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, Prairie State College has partnered with the United States of America Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration, established by Congress, to "thank and honor veterans of the Vietnam War, including personnel who were held as prisoners of war (POW) or listed as missing in action (MIA), for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States and to thank and honor the families of these veterans"; and

WHEREAS, It is important to honor the men and women who survived and the 58,260 men and women who gave their lives, 14 of whom were from Chicago Heights and Park Forest; and

WHEREAS, The citizens of the City of Chicago Heights and the Village of Park Forest, and across the entire State of Illinois, must never forget the pain and suffering that lingers today for the men and women who fought with honor and distinction in the name of freedom and democracy for all; and

WHEREAS, The State of Illinois renews its commitment to those who answered the country's call to service in Vietnam and their families; and

WHEREAS, Throughout this commemoration, let us strive to live up to their example by showing our Vietnam veterans, their families, and all of the men and women who have served our country the fullest respect and support of a grateful State and nation; and

WHEREAS, The freedoms and liberties we enjoy are a direct result of the courage, devotion, and sacrifice of the soldiers and their families and we draw inspiration and pride from all that they are; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank our Vietnam Veterans and their families for the sacrifices that they made and we recognize Prairie State College, the City of Chicago Heights, and the Village of Park Forest for their ongoing efforts to recognize those who served in Vietnam; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Prairie State College, the City of Chicago Heights, and the Village of Park Forest as a symbol of our immense gratitude and respect.
