HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are delighted to congratulate the Illinois National Guard for being recognized as one of the "Most Improved Army Communities" as part of the 2016 Army Communities of Excellence Program; and

WHEREAS, Major General Richard Hayes, Jr., Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard, and a delegation of other Illinois National Guardsmen traveled to Washington, D.C. on May 23 and 24, 2016 to accept the award; and

WHEREAS, The Army Communities of Excellence program is designed to honor the top Army, National Guard, and Reserve organizations that achieve high levels of excellence providing services and support to soldiers' families, the state, and nation; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois delegation was first honored on May 23, 2016 at the National Guard Bureau, as the "Most-Improved" National Guard organization from among the 40 other states and territories that were considered; and

WHEREAS, On May 24, 2016, Illinois National Guardsmen attended a second awards ceremony at the Pentagon where Illinois was again recognized as being one of the "Most Improved Army Communities", alongside Joint Base Lewis McChord in Washington and Fort Drum in New York; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois National Guard actively seeks out best practices to maintain a high state of readiness to support its State and federal missions, as evident by its recognition in Washington, D.C., and to become the premier Army National Guard organization in the nation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Illinois National Guard for being recognized as one of the "Most Improved Army Communities" as part of the 2016 Army Communities of Excellence Program and thank the entire Illinois National Guard organization for their service to our State and nation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Major General Richard Hayes, Jr. as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
