HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the staff, administration, and students of W.S. Beaupre Elementary School in Aurora on the occasion of the school's 100th anniversary in 2016; and

WHEREAS, The oldest public school district in Illinois, East Aurora School District 131, was first recognized by the State in 1851, though teachers had been giving classes at subscription-based and charter schoolhouses in the area since 1834; and

WHEREAS, Wealthy banker and influential community member, W.S. Beaupre, served on the East Aurora School District Board from 1882 to 1927; his daughter was a school teacher who, in light of the lack of appropriate books, wrote original short stories for young children; and

WHEREAS, In 1915, W.S. Beaupre Elementary School was built in Aurora; the school was opened for its inaugural year in 1916; in the mid-1990s, the school was recognized for being a State leader in literacy scores; and

WHEREAS, W.S. Beaupre Elementary School is currently under the leadership of Principal Caridad Garcia, who has served in that capacity since 2013; and

WHEREAS, The staff, administration, and students of W.S. Beaupre Elementary School serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the staff, administration, and students of W.S. Beaupre Elementary School in Aurora on the occasion of the school's 100th anniversary and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to W.S. Beaupre Elementary School as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
