HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. J. David Arnold on the
4occasion of his retirement as President of Eureka College and
5his promotion to Chancellor; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Arnold has served as President of Eureka
7College for 11 years; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Arnold's accomplishments as President include
9numerous campus improvements, a new residence hall, balanced
10budgets, increased alumni support, and creation of the Reagan
11Forward initiative, which has brought guest lecturers such as
12Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and former Soviet President Mikhail
13Gorbachev to the school; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Prior to joining Eureka College, Dr. Arnold was a
15professor and administrator at St. Lawrence University,
16Clarion University, St. John Fisher College, and Missouri
17Western State College; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Arnold is a native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania,
19and was the first in his family to graduate from college; he
20and his wife, Katherine, have three children and twin
21granddaughters; and

1    WHEREAS, Eureka College was founded in 1855 and is the alma
2mater of Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States; it
3was the first college in Illinois, and the third in the United
4States to admit both men and women; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7congratulate Dr. J. David Arnold on his retirement as President
8of Eureka College and his promotion to Chancellor, and we wish
9him the best as he takes on his new duties; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Dr. Arnold as an expression of our esteem and
12respect.
