HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. J. David Arnold on the occasion of his retirement as President of Eureka College and his promotion to Chancellor; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Arnold has served as President of Eureka College for 11 years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Arnold's accomplishments as President include numerous campus improvements, a new residence hall, balanced budgets, increased alumni support, and creation of the Reagan Forward initiative, which has brought guest lecturers such as Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev to the school; and

WHEREAS, Prior to joining Eureka College, Dr. Arnold was a professor and administrator at St. Lawrence University, Clarion University, St. John Fisher College, and Missouri Western State College; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Arnold is a native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and was the first in his family to graduate from college; he and his wife, Katherine, have three children and twin granddaughters; and

WHEREAS, Eureka College was founded in 1855 and is the alma mater of Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States; it was the first college in Illinois, and the third in the United States to admit both men and women; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. J. David Arnold on his retirement as President of Eureka College and his promotion to Chancellor, and we wish him the best as he takes on his new duties; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Arnold as an expression of our esteem and respect.
