HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize eight years of partnership and cooperation between the Canton Park District and the Department of Natural Resources; and

WHEREAS, The Canton Park District manages 1,403 acres of open space to enhance the quality of life within the community; it has seen steady growth in both land holdings and facility development; and

WHEREAS, The Canton Park District serves a base population of 17,000 individuals, and offers many unique and varied recreational opportunities to meet the leisure needs of its constituents; and

WHEREAS, The Canton Park District offers many recreational activities, including a one-half mile hiking trail, an accessible playground, and a facility for the annual Central Illinois Youth Goose Hunt, which gives kids an opportunity to help the community reduce the local goose population with the help of local hunters; and

WHEREAS, Lakeland Park is an example of positive cooperation between local, State, and federal agencies and the private sector; the park is a showcase of the recreational potential of reclaimed coal strip-mined lands; and

WHEREAS, Fulton County has a rich history as a major coal mining area and has been a beacon of conservation; Lakeland Park now contains over 5 miles of hiking trails, picnic shelters, fishing opportunities, scuba diving, and natural areas because of the partnership between the Department of Natural resources and the Canton Park District; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the Canton Park District's outstanding performance and its eight years of partnership and cooperation with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Canton Park District and its members as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
