HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Judy Weber-Jones, who will retire from the teaching profession at the end of the 2016 school year; and

WHEREAS, Judy Weber-Jones is a teacher at Gibson City Melvin Sibley High School in Gibson City; she has dedicated more than 30 years to teaching driver education to teenagers; and

WHEREAS, Through the efforts of Judy Weber-Jones, countless teenage lives have been saved; and

WHEREAS, Judy Weber-Jones was named to the Illinois High School and College Driver Education Association's Hall of Fame in 2007 and was named Teacher of the Year in 2016; and

WHEREAS, Judy Weber-Jones took up the cause of teen driver safety in 2005 when she initiated the nationally recognized Project Ignition Program at Melvin Sibley High School; and

WHEREAS, Judy Weber-Jones and her students have won numerous teen driver safety awards, including Project Ignition National Champion in 2005-2006; the Illinois Governor's People Are Today's Hero Award in 2006; Rural Youth Traffic Safety National Champions in 2008; National Leader for Impact on Teen Driver Safety Award in 2010; National Leader in School Traffic Safety in 2011; General Motors and National Safety Council's Teen Driver Safety Leadership Award in 2012; and first place in the Illinois Department of Transportation's Operation Teen Safe Driving Program in 2014; and

WHEREAS, Judy Weber-Jones has been an inspiration and mentor to her students throughout the years by providing them with life lessons in addition to driver education; and

WHEREAS, Judy Weber-Jones' students state she has taught them how to "bring out the best" in themselves and others, that they have "never met a person more caring, kind, and giving to everyone", and that she has "forever changed" their lives; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Judy Weber-Jones on the occasion of her retirement, thank her for her dedication to the education profession and her dedication to her students, and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Judy Weber-Jones as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
