HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulates Ann (Gerber) and Bernard Kaplan on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary on April 23, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Ann and Bernard Kaplan met at the Edgewater Beach Cabana Club and were married on April 23, 1966 at the Ambassador East Hotel; they settled in Chicago on the Near North Side; and

WHEREAS, Bernard Kaplan earned his Master of Business Arts from the Harvard Business School and is the oldest living Harvard Business School graduate in Chicago; he served as head of a candy company and also worked in real estate; and

WHEREAS, Ann Kaplan attended Wright Junior College, Northwestern University, and Mundelein College, while working as a journalist; she recently retired from more than 65 years of gossip column writing in Chicago, the city's longest, continual columnist; and

WHEREAS, Ann and Bernard Kaplan have traveled to China seven times; they used to travel to Europe every fall, visiting London, Paris, and Spain; and

WHEREAS, Ann Kaplan is currently writing a book; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Ann and Bernard Kaplan on their 50th wedding anniversary and we wish them many more wonderful years together; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ann and Bernard Kaplan as an expression of our esteem and respect.
