HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Tuskegee Airmen is the popular name of a group
3of African-American pilots who flew with distinction during
4World War II as the 332nd Fighter Group of the United States
5Army Air Corps; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Tuskegee Airmen were America's first
7African-American military airmen; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Supporters of the Tuskegee Airmen Road Side
9Project in Champaign County and the Champaign County Highway
10Committee have approached the General Assembly to request
11assistance in placing signs at the Champaign County roadside
12entrances to document the "Activation of the Tuskegee Airmen -
13March 1941"; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16honor the service and sacrifices of the Tuskegee Airmen with
17the placement of commemorative memorial signs at all highway
18entrances to Champaign County bearing the words "Activation of
19the Tuskegee Airmen - March 1941"; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
21is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with

1State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
2noting the "Activation of the Tuskegee Airmen - March 1941";
3and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
5presented to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
6Transportation, and the members of the Tuskegee Airmen Roadside
7Project as a symbol of our recognition, respect, and esteem.
