HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Mary Barnett on the occasion of her 80th birthday; and

WHEREAS, Mary Barnett was born in Charleston, Mississippi on February 7, 1936; she grew up on Chicago's west side and was married for 33 years; and

WHEREAS, Mary Barnett retired from the Management Division of Sears Corporate Headquarters in 1990 after 24 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Mary Barnett served as a mentor to 7th grade students at Johnson Elementary School and still keeps in touch with some of them; she also served as an ombudsman for the Department of Aging from 1992 to 1994; and

WHEREAS, Mary Barnett is an active member of the 15th District Police Senior Steering Committee, the South Austin Coalition Community Council, and the West Suburban Fitness Program; she lobbied with Service Employees International Union to bring about justice for several causes; she is also a member of Living Word Christian (greeters ministry); therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mary Barnett on her 80th birthday and we wish her many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mary Barnett as an expression of our esteem and respect.
