HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Lawrence C. Burnson on the
4occasion of his retirement as Chief of the Homewood Police
5Department on March 11, 2016; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Chief Burnson grew up in Chicago's Roseland
7neighborhood, where he attended Mendel Catholic High School; he
8has an associate's degree in law enforcement from South
9Suburban College, a bachelor's degree in social justice from
10Lewis University, and a master's degree in public
11administration from DePaul University; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Chief Burnson began his law enforcement career at
13the Matteson Police Department in May of 1974; during his
14career in Matteson, he has served as a patrol officer,
15investigator, sergeant, lieutenant, administrative aide, and
16Deputy Chief of Police; in August of 1992, he was promoted to
17the position of Chief of Police; on December 7, 2001, he
18retired from the Matteson Police Department; on December 10,
192001, he was appointed to the position of Chief of Police for
20the Homewood Police Department; and
 
21    WHEREAS, During his career in Homewood, Chief Burnson was
22instrumental in the creation of the E-Com Dispatch Center, a

1consolidated communications center which provides service for
2police, fire, and EMS calls for 6 local municipalities; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Chief Burnson is an active member of the South
4Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police, the Illinois
5Association of Chiefs of Police, and the International
6Association of Chiefs of Police; he served as the President of
7the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police in 2007 and as
8president of the South Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police
9from 2000 to 2001; he has also served on the D.A.R.E. Executive
10Law Enforcement Advisory Board; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Chief Burnson serves as a model of hard work,
12integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
13Illinois; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16congratulate Lawrence C. Burnson on the occasion of his
17retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the
18future; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to Chief Burnson as a symbol of our esteem and
21respect.
