HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The old Stony Creek Bridge was a narrow cement
3bridge on U.S. Route 150; the bridge's narrow passage could be
4a safety hazard to semi-trucks, buses, and other large vehicles
5that passed along the bridge; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Thanks to the great initiative of former Illinois
7State Representative William Black, the Illinois Department of
8Transportation replaced the old Stony Creek Bridge with a new,
9wider bridge with safety guard rails that has proved safer for
10drivers on U.S. Route 150 that travel from Danville to
11Champaign; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Representative Black's dedication to his
13constituents and to effective and honest public service is
14worthy of the greatest respect; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
17SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the Stony Creek
18Bridge on U.S. Route 150 as the "Stony Creek Bridge - Honoring
19State Rep. William B. Black" in honor of former State
20Representative Black and his work in renovating the Stony Creek
21Bridge; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
2is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
3State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
4giving notice of the name of the "Stony Creek Bridge - Honoring
5State Rep. William B. Black"; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
7presented to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
8Transportation and former State Representative William Black.
