SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Internet Voting Commission Act. Creates a commission appointed by the legislative leaders to study and recommend to the General Assembly a system of voting via the Internet at elections in 2020 and thereafter. Abolishes the commission and repeals the Act January 1, 2018. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5Internet Voting Commission Act.
 
6    Section 5. Commission created. The Internet Voting
7Commission is created, consisting of 12 members of the General
8Assembly. The President and Minority Leader of the Senate and
9the Speaker and Minority Leader of the House of Representatives
10shall each appoint 3 legislative members.
11    The Internet Voting Commission shall study and recommend to
12the General Assembly a system of voting via the Internet at
13elections in 2020 and thereafter. The Internet system of voting
14shall supplement and not replace existing voting systems.
15    The Commission shall designate a chairman from among its
16number, shall meet as frequently as necessary at the call of
17the chair, and shall report its findings to the General
18Assembly as expeditiously as possible. Commission
19recommendations shall take effect upon the effective date of a
20Public Act that enacts them.
21    Commission members shall receive no compensation but shall
22be reimbursed for expenses incurred in the performance of their
23duties from funds appropriated for that purpose.

1    The Commission is abolished January 1, 2018.
 
2    Section 10. Repeal. This Act is repealed January 1, 2018.
 
3    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
4becoming law.
