SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

20 ILCS 1605/7.18 new

Amends the Illinois Lottery Law. Provides that if, in any fiscal year, appropriations have not been made that ensure the availability of funds to pay prizes to the holders of winning tickets or shares during that fiscal year, the Department of the Lottery shall suspend the sale of lottery tickets and shares until those appropriations have been made. Effective immediately.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Illinois Lottery Law is amended by adding Section 7.18 as follows:

(20 ILCS 1605/7.18 new)

Sec. 7.18. Suspension of lottery sales. If, in any fiscal year, appropriations have not been made that ensure the availability of funds to pay prizes to the holders of winning tickets or shares during that fiscal year, the Department shall suspend the sale of lottery tickets and shares until those appropriations have been made.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
