SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Sandra D. "Sandy" Bauer of Springfield, who passed away on January 19, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer was born to Floyd and Helen (Pohlod) Durning in Springfield on September 1, 1943; she attended Springfield High School, where she was captain of the cheerleading squad; she earned a Bachelor of Science from Millikin University and a Master of Education from the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer taught in a few cities before returning to Springfield, where she taught at Springfield Public Schools District 186; while teaching at Iles Gifted Magnet School, she became a pioneer in teaching gifted education and using technology to innovate learning, retiring in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer was the recipient of a Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Grant to study schools and culture in Japan for three weeks; after being nominated three times, she won the Horace Mann Educator of the Year Award in 2009; and

WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer served as president of the Twins Club and the Springfield USA Swim Club, and she served on numerous Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) boards at each school her children attended; she volunteered at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum; and

WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer enjoyed wearing bright colors, chunky necklaces, and fun shoes, making appetizers for her Bunco group, sharing a good drink with her book club, cuddling up with her treasured cat, Honey, while reading a good book, watching the news, and spending cherished time with her grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer will be remembered for her personality, dedication, creativity, warmth, and her love for her family; and

WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer is survived by her twin daughters, Elizabeth "Libby" Peach and Gwendolyn "Wendy" (Lee) Rudolph, and her grandchildren, Logan, Ella, Hudson, and Mason; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Sandra D. "Sandy" Bauer and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sandy Bauer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
