SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lonnie Ray Sherfy of Granite City, who passed away on January 11, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Lonnie Sherfy was born on July 28, 1946 in East St. Louis to Harry and Ailene (nee Lewis) Sherfy; he served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War; he married Mary Emma Whitehead on December 17, 1966 in Madison; and

WHEREAS, Lonnie Sherfy retired in 2002 from the National Steel Corporation after 37 years of service as a millwright; and

WHEREAS, Lonnie Sherfy was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, and AMVETS; he was also a member of the Word of Life Tabernacle in Granite City and enjoyed fishing, camping, landscaping, gardening, reading, and taking many trips to Dover; and

WHEREAS, Lonnie Sherfy was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Wilson and Lester; and his sisters, Mae and Hazel; and

WHEREAS, Lonnie Sherfy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary; his daughters, Vicki Sherfy and Pamela (Todd) Koenig; his grandchildren, Brett Fowler, Ashley Koenig, Megan Koenig, Kaitlin Koenig, and Kristen Koenig; his brother, Roy Sherfy; his sisters, Suee Warren, Donna (Larry) Turner, Mary Milton, Shirley (Jack) Pilger, and Dianne (Paul) Hollis; and his many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lonnie Ray Sherfy, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family Lonnie Sherfy as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
