SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lonnie Ray Sherfy of Granite City, who
4passed away on January 11, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lonnie Sherfy was born on July 28, 1946 in East
6St. Louis to Harry and Ailene (nee Lewis) Sherfy; he served his
7country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War; he
8married Mary Emma Whitehead on December 17, 1966 in Madison;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lonnie Sherfy retired in 2002 from the National
11Steel Corporation after 37 years of service as a millwright;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lonnie Sherfy was a member of the American Legion,
14the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans,
15and AMVETS; he was also a member of the Word of Life Tabernacle
16in Granite City and enjoyed fishing, camping, landscaping,
17gardening, reading, and taking many trips to Dover; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Lonnie Sherfy was preceded in death by his
19parents; his brothers, Wilson and Lester; and his sisters, Mae
20and Hazel; and

1    WHEREAS, Lonnie Sherfy is survived by his wife of 47 years,
2Mary; his daughters, Vicki Sherfy and Pamela (Todd) Koenig; his
3grandchildren, Brett Fowler, Ashley Koenig, Megan Koenig,
4Kaitlin Koenig, and Kristen Koenig; his brother, Roy Sherfy;
5his sisters, Suee Warren, Donna (Larry) Turner, Mary Milton,
6Shirley (Jack) Pilger, and Dianne (Paul) Hollis; and his many
7nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Lonnie Ray Sherfy, and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family Lonnie Sherfy as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
