SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald Leo Hastings, Jr. of Edwardsville, who passed away on June 1, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hastings, Jr. was born on May 30, 1952, in Alton; his parents were Donald and Harriet (Zoleman) Hastings; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hastings, Jr. attended Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and was the first student trustee in Illinois to serve both campuses at Edwardsville and Carbondale; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hastings, Jr. was a long-standing member of the Lewis and Clark Historical Society; as a member, he helped society leadership to procure federal and State funding to build the Lewis and Clark State Historical Site in Hartford, served on the design team for the site and its exhibits, and successfully secured grant money to erect a replica of Camp River Dubois; he served as President of the Society during the Bicentennial, earning Hartford the designation of Site #1 on the Lewis and Clark Heritage Trail; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hastings, Jr. served as the Democratic Committeeman for Precinct #4, a position held by his grandmother for 52 years; and

WHEREAS, Donald Hastings, Jr. is survived by his parents; his children, Alexis (Rennie) Mead and Cameron (Jennifer) Hastings; his significant other, Kathryn Hymel, and her children, Rick Solomon and Christian (Jamie) Luetkemeyer; his siblings, Douglas (Kathleen) Hastings, Pamela (Lawrence) Perlmutter, Celeste (Gregg) Korte, Kathleen (Kevin) Walker, Elizabeth (Theodore) Petersen, Kimberly (Brett) Wolff, and Jennifer Moehlmann; his grandchildren, Rowan, Finnian, and Auden Mead and Avan and Cade Luetkemeyer; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Donald Leo Hastings, Jr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald Hastings, Jr. as an expression of our sympathy.
