SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gerald Wayne Bassett of Savannah, Georgia, who passed away on November 9, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Bassett was born in Wood River on June 11, 1952 to Merle and Norine Bassett; he graduated from Roxana High School in 1970; he attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana and graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a liberal arts degree; he received his Juris Doctor from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Prior to obtaining his legal degree, Gerald Bassett worked in the Madison County Chief County Assessment Office; he began his law practice in Illinois, and then moved to Georgia in 1995, where he maintained an office for many years; he was a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Illinois State Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Bassett was preceded in death by his grandparents and a son, Jerrad Bassett; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Bassett is survived by his parents; his 2 daughters, Marina Bassett and Sasha Bassett; his 3 sisters, Laura Bassett (Eric Friedman), Lynn Bassett (Tommy House), and Rene (Tracy) Butler; and nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gerald Wayne Bassett, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gerald Bassett as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
