SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John J. "Luke" Luketich of St. Louis,
4Missouri, who passed away on October 27, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Luketich was born in Roxana on November 14,
61922 to Mike M. and Dora M. (nee Dugan) Luketich; he attended
7St. Bernard's Grade School in Wood River and East Alton-Wood
8River High School; he also attended Saint Louis University; he
9married Mary Louise Schleeper on November 15, 1965 at St.
10Bernard Catholic Church; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Luketich worked at the Shell Research
12Laboratory in Roxana, retiring in 1975; he then built and
13became the owner and operator of St. Catherine's Village Golf
14Course in Edwardsville from 1973 until retiring in 2006; and
 
15    WHEREAS, John Luketich was a member of St. Bernard's
16Catholic Church in Wood River through the 1970s; he then was a
17member of St. Boniface Parish in Edwardsville until 2006 and
18then St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton; he was a member of
19the Knights of Columbus Council 1143 in Edwardsville and
20enjoyed tennis, golfing, bowling, and playing pinochle in his
21younger days; he looked forward to weekend "pilgrimages" with
22his family to Notre Dame, Indiana, where he enjoyed Notre Dame

1football; he also was a avid Saint Louis University Basketball
2and Chicago Cubs fan; his greatest joy was being around his
3family, visiting with his nieces and nephews, and going
4shopping with his much-loved grandson; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Luketich was preceded in death by his wife,
6Mary; his parents; his sister, Catherine Luketich; and his
7brother, Donald Luketich; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Luketich is survived by his daughter, Carolyn
9(Joel) Simansky; his son, Dan Luketich; his grandson, Benjamin
10Michael Simansky; his sister-in-law, Barbara (nee Shields)
11Luketich; and many friends; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14John J. "Luke" Luketich, and extend our sincere condolences to
15his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of John Luketich as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
